How do you ask and answer the time?
Ask Cât e ceasul? or Cât este ceasul? (What time is it?). Answer with Este ora... or the shorter conversational E ora... (It is...). In expressions with minutes, și counts forward from the current hour, while fără counts back from the next hour.

How do you use la and pe la with a time?
Use la for a point in time, especially an appointment or a scheduled event. Use pe la when the time is approximate.

Which clock-hour forms need special attention?
The clock expression contains the feminine noun ora, but some hour numerals have special forms in this use. Say ora unu, ora două, and ora douăsprezece, not ora una, ora doi, or ora doisprezece. Mistakes to avoid
- For a quarter past, use și un sfert: ora trei și un sfert is 3:15. For a quarter to, name the next hour and use fără un sfert: ora patru fără un sfert is 3:45.
- Do not carry the usual quantity form doi into the clock phrase: say ora două, not ora doi.
- Do not use ora doisprezece for 12:00: the standard clock expression is ora douăsprezece.
- Use la ora cinci for exactly five and pe la cinci for around five.
